Museo d'Arte Moderna - via Sant'Anna 21, 90133 Palermo

The Gallery of Modern Art of Palermo is located in Via Sant’Anna, which continues from Via Alloro to Via Roma.

It is in the heart of the old city centre and a few hundred meters away from Piazza Pretoria and Palazzo delle Aquile, the City Hall. From here, you walk down Discesa dei Giudici, cross via Roma and come to Piazza Sant’Anna, where you find the church of Sant’Anna and the annex convent where the Museum is located.

Other remarkable monuments lie in the same area, such as the Galleria Regionale di Palazzo Abatellis (Regional Gallery) and the church of San Francesco d’Assisi. The area is mostly pedestrianized and it can be reached with a Municipal shuttle bus service serving the pedestrian areas.

From the Railway Station to the Gallery of Modern Art

  • on foot: walk along Via Roma for about 700m, then turn right on Via Discesa dei Giudici (walking time: approx. 10 min)
  • by bus: take Lines 101, 102, 107 or 122; get off at the third stop, walk along Via Roma, then turn right on Via Discesa dei Giudici
  • by AMAT shuttle bus serving the pedestrian areas: Yellow Line, Stop Sant’Anna
  • by City Sightseeing Tour, Line A from Teatro Politeama (142 of Via Emerico Amari): get off at Stop no. 3 called Quattro Canti, then cross Piazza Pretoria to via Discesa dei Giudici ( approx. 5 min)

From the Falcone-Borsellino International Airport of Palermo to the central railway station

  • by bus service operated by Prestia & Comandé (departures every 30 min)
  • by train (leaving approx. every 30 min)

Full price 10,00 euro

Reduced price 8,00 euro for groups of at least 15 people, visitors aged 19 and 25 years, senior citizens (65 and older), university students, Unipa SmartCard and holders of special discount cards (valid in Italy).

Special reduced price 1,50 euro for school groups, visitors beetwen 6-18 years old, Accademy of Fine Arts and Humanistic Faculties students, ICOM card holders.

Free Admission - free admission for visitors under the age of 6, disabled people and their careers, accredited journalists, tourist guides, travel and tour operator agents.

The Museum is provided with electronic ticketing system.

ASSISTANCE

The Museum’s management has placed great importance on making the venue easily accessible and pleasant for all visitors. The venue does not feature architectural barriers for people on wheelchairs and is equipped with electric and manually operated wheelchairs. All sections of the exhibition itinerary are illustrated with information panels in Italian and English illustrating the content of each section. It is possible to rent audio guide devices in Italian as well as English. This gives right to discounts on the entrance ticket.

GUIDED VISIT

Guided and thematic visits to the collection can be booked for groups in Italian, one of the main European foreign languages and in sign language.

 

INFO, BOOKING AND CONTACTS

The Museum’s permanent collection boasts more than two hundreds paintings and sculptures, spanning from the early 1800s to the mid-1900s. These artworks illustrate the career of artists such as Giuseppe Sciuti, Francesco Lojacono, Franz von Stuck, Giovanni Boldini, Mario Rutelli, Renato Guttuso, Antonino Leto, Ettore De Maria Bergler, Mario Sironi, Felice Casorati and Massimo Campigli.

The Museum is open for visitors daily, except Mondays, and public holidays, from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm (last admission at 5:30). The ticket can be purchased at the ticket counter, online (LINK) or via call centre.

To experience your visit to the fullest, you can take advantage of various services provided for single visitors or groups. A wide range of educational activities have been specially designed for families and schools.

The architectural complex of Sant’Anna that hosts the Museum is fully accessible for physically impaired people. It is an extremely charming venue thanks to its stunning cloister and small internal courtyards, the restaurant and cafeteria, with top-quality cuisine, where you can also purchase typical Sicilian delicacies, as well as to the bookshop selling original items and publications on modern art, Sicilian art heritage and third-sector essays.
